memoir44Memoir '44-Fight opposing forces one on one or as a battlemap overlord, in this strategic board game based around World War II.

In this light war-themed strategy board game, initially designed for two players, you begin setting up the game by first choosing a scenario to run, representing a battle from World War II between opposing forces.  The map used, terrain layouts, and soldier placement are all based around the scenario's guidelines.  Figures of army men, tanks, cannons, and other useful items are placed throughout the three sectioned map giving players a center and then a left and right flank.  To move in Memoir, each player draws a number of cards at the start of their turn and use the "Commands" on the 'Command Cards' to determine which of flank and how many units may be activated in their turn.  The game is over when all of one player's troops have been eliminated or any other scenario victory is played out.

In our test game we saw that scenarios can be used to affect the way a player might choose his actions in the game.  Typically, you have one player defending the area with another attacking, trying to gain ground for their armies.  For example, in the test game, it was the offense who had many tanks and were to attack the defense by first going through mine fields, barbed wire, sandbags with gunners, to finally break through the defense's line.

Memoir '44 is a fun quick game for anyone new to war-themed miniature gaming.  Although, it is a board game, there are many expansions covering several different armies.
